Khatu Shyam

Many years later, a head was found at Khatu which was worshiped by a Brahmin for many days. Shortly, the King of Khatu had a dream inspiring him to build a temple here and place this head of the courageous Barbarik, today worshiped as Khatu Shyam Baba.

Inside the temple, the idol is enshrined in the form of only a head which makes the temple one of its kind in the county. The remaining part below the head is covered with garlands and flowers. It is believed to be a wish granting temple.

Kahatu Shyam temple is located at a distance of around 250 KM from delhi. Its good 5 hours drive on delhi-jaipur highway. Drive around 180 kms on the delhi jaipur highway and then take the bikaner highway towards bikaner.

Katu Shyam has a very famous temple of Baba Khatu Shyam. The history behind Baba Khatu Shyam is that he is the grandson of Bhim who has been given special powers to conquer any battle. He was interested in watching the battle between Kauravas and Pandavas and he decided that he would like to support the loosing side in the battle. Lord Krishna fearing that the battle will never end decided to not let Khatu Shyam be a part of the battle. So he cut his head and placed at a place from where he could witness the battle as desired by him but could not take part in it. As he was very powerful and brave therefore in his respect the temple of Khatu Shyam was made and is worshiped as like lord Krishna.

The temple opens up at 5AM in the morning till 1PM in the afternoon and then it reopens at 5PM and closed by 11PM in the night. The atmosphere is very serene and vising this temple is very peaceful. Its a highly recommended one day trip from delhi. There are a number of good hotels and Dharamshala's to stay over night incase you don't want to drive back on the same day.

Shyam Kund :
The holy pond near the temple from which the SHISH was retrieved. It is believed that a dip in this pond cures a person from ailments and brings good health.

Shyam Bagichi :
A blessed garden near the temple from where the flowers are picked to be offered to the deity. The great devotee Lt. Aloo Singhji's Samadhi is also situated in the Premises.

Gourishankar Temple :
Shiva temple situated near Shyamji's temple. It is a legend that the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb's soldiers wanted to destroy this temple, and attacked the Shiva Linga with a spear. Fountains of blood appeared from the Shiva Linga, and the soldiers ran away, terrified. One can still see the mark of the spear on the Linga.
